5D Mark II 24p rumor

25fps would be fine too but I wouldn’t mind getting this:

Canon 5D Mark II manual settings on video

Probably the most critizised feature of 5D Mark II is the video settings. Originally it was locked to automatic metering when capturing the video but the new firmware 1.1.0 changes this.

I didn’t really test it yet. I also have a slight problem with my computer setup as it is not powerful enough to playback the full HD videos I shoot with the cam. I don’t even consider what would happen if I’d like to edit them too. O_o

White Balance lens caps continued

Judging on the camera lcd with couple of fast tests the white balance lens caps seem to work surprisingly fine.

One point I left out from the last post was that I actually bought my WB-lens cap from eBay below $10. Which is quite a phenomenal difference to Photojojo’s (yes, at least it looks cool compared to the cheap one) price.

I’ll post some comparison shots done in anti-scientific manner later on. One thing to mention about the probable difference between the more pricy ones and cheap ones is that the cheaper one is almost flat. I don’t know how much that affects but I’d assume the light-spread is better in the hemisphere shaped pricier ones. Cheap seems to be enough for me at least.

So “goodbye gray cards… what? really?”. I’d say yes – at least for me. The difference between the White balance lens cap and Gray card is that White balance lens cap is easier to use and works also as a lens cap at the same time (so I don’t have to specifically carry it around with me.) Also the lens cap can do it when you are yourself in a different lighting condition than the subject is without going there to take the WB. But of course I think that the lens cap probably won’t handle the WB as accurately as you’d have it with Gray card if things would be optimal. With Gray card you can definetly trust that this card is  (for example 18%) gray and it reflects the light from the direction you want it. So there is room for Gray card in some situations but for my usage I’m happy user of the WB lens cap. At least for now.

White balance caps

I recently found out the existence of white balance lens caps!

Just bought couple of them through eBay. Which is also a new experience to me as I’ve made a choice to avoid any auction sites like a plague (That because I’ve seen that people get hooked on them and it easily seems to be at least in the addiction level of caffeine=). But the quite interesting thing was that I didn’t really found out any place in Finland or even Europe that would be selling those. That forced me to register to eBay. And now I just have to avoid going to the site as it is definetly a road to destruction with all the looming – shiny glowing cheap items that you don’t need!
